October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Hello my lovely ladies and gentlemen. Hope you have had a good start of the week. For the most part I write about things that are more entertaining and are supposed to make life more pleasurable. But all of the glitter and glam means nothing when you are not healthy. Your well-being is the most important thing, without that nothing matters.

As you know October is breast cancer awareness month. It's a subject that has been really close to my heart. We all have someone in our circle who has been effected by this terrible disease. Close to 1.7 million new breast cancer cases have been diagnosed in 2012 (bcrfcure.org)

Since 2008 the the breast cancer cases have increased by more than 20% and mortality has increased by 14%. (bcrfcure.org)

It is important that we raise funds to continue cancer research to finally find a cure. I wish there was more attention paid to natural resources.
We are all responsible to conduct self exams to spot cancer in early stages, because let's be honest one annual check up a year that you have have with your doctor is just not enough. We are in charge of our health.
Conduct a self-exam at least once a month, best after your period. National Breast Cancer Foundation cites the following things to look for:

Discharge
Discoloration
Dimpling of the skin or changes in the nipple
Feel for any lumps, thickening or knots (http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org)

Their website offers many images and videos that will help you learn how to conduct a self exam. You can also ask your health care provider to give you some direction on how to conduct your monthly self-exam. Don't ever be ashamed to ask for more information. Don't forget that if you are a lady over 40 years old you should get mammograms every year or every 2 years. (http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/)

I hope you have found this information useful. There is no shame in touching your boobies ladies! :)
(I'm by no means an expert, I wanted to share this information one girlfriend to another)

Now, what can we do to help fund breast cancer research? Well, that's when it gets fun! During the month of October many companies, such as Estee Lauder are selling products of which part of the proceeds is donated to Breast Cancer Research.
Anyway, here are some products that you can pick up this month:

Advanced Night Repair Serum by Estee Lauder  20% of the suggested retail price is donated
La Mer Hand Cream  $10 of any hand treatment sold is donated
Holst+Lee Earrings for Loft will donate 70% of the purchase price
Tory Burch Kerrington Zip Wallet 20% of every purchase will be donated
Nest Fragrances Passion Candle 10% of the purchase price
Jo Malone London Red Rose Cologne the company makes a yearly donation of $40,000 regardless of the sales of this item

These are just a few things that caught my eye. You can check out more items on the Shop Pink page.  and pick from a variety of products ranging from beauty to entertainment.

I know this post has been a departure from the regular things that I typically share, but I think that our physical and mental well being are the two most important things. Please stay safe and take good care of  yourself! I am always excited to read your comments. Have you bought any of the Shop Pink products this year or in past years? Please feel free to share your thoughts below and don't forget to subscribe!
